Our story

Real food, made properly, for everyone

Dosa Chaska brings the light, fresh food of South India to West Cumbria: pancakes made from rice and lentils, fermented overnight, curries slow-cooked in small batches, and proper coffee and chai.

  • 5-star food hygiene rating
  • Loved by locals in Cockermouth and Whitehaven

Why we do it

The opposite of ultra-processed

Dosa Chaska was started by co-founders Sachin and Shubha. Shubha, our head chef, was a performing arts, fitness and yoga teacher before she brought her cooking to Cumbria. We began with a food trailer in 2024, opened our Cockermouth café in April 2026, and now cook our curries at our hub in Whitehaven.

Most quick food today is ultra-processed. We wanted the opposite: food made from 8 to 12 whole ingredients, with no emulsifiers, stabilisers or artificial colours, that leaves you feeling good. So that’s what we cook, every day.

  • Batter fermented for 8 to 12 hours
  • Whole spices, ground and tempered by hand
  • Pancakes made without gluten-containing ingredients
  • Most dishes can be made vegan

More than a café

Good food that brings people together

Our hub in Whitehaven is home to Indian Global Village, our non-profit community interest company. Through cooking workshops, wellbeing sessions, cultural events and work with local charities, we use food to bring people together and help our community live well.
